Set the format once, then scout. Start here.

Getting started

1. Pick your camera format — the sensor you'll actually shoot on, and its recording area.
2. Pick your lenses — build a kit from the catalog, including anamorphics and rear expanders or doublers.
3. Frame. The volume buttons step through your kit — left goes wider, right goes tighter. Press the shutter (or the Camera Control button on iPhone 16) to capture a reference still.
4. Stills file into the current project; export boards and contact sheets as PDFs from the gallery.

Common questions

How accurate is the framing?

Angle of view is computed from published sensor dimensions and true focal lengths — squeeze ratios and rear modifiers included. When your target view is wider than the phone's own optics, Recce shows the full frame with the overrun marked, so the composition still reads.

Why does it want my location?

Only to tag captured frames with where you found the shot, so a scout board can say which setup was where. It's optional — decline it and everything works. Tags live in the shot on your device; see the privacy policy.

Where are my stills?

In the app's project library, on your phone. Turn on saving to Photos if you also want them there, or get them out by sharing — images, PDF boards, or video.

The film look

The emulation is densitometric — colour, grain, and halation modelled on how negative and print behave, applied live in the viewfinder and to captures. It can be toggled per export, so the same shot can leave clean or looked.

What does it run on?

iPhone 15 Pro or later, iOS 18 or newer. The Camera Control shutter needs an iPhone 16.
