Circle Take support
Set up the cameras once, then just log. Start here.
Getting started
- Open Setup and fill in the production — title, company, director, and D.P. — for the report header.
- Add your cameras. Each is film or digital and keeps its own slate. Long-press a camera to set its tape colour, report type, crew, and which fields it shows.
- Tap the tape label to start a roll or card: stock, mag, load, media.
- Log. Tap a field to pick from its presets, Roll and Cut to time takes, +Take to move on, and the circle to circle one. Swipe a take for corrections.
- Open the report to review it, then share the PDF.
Common questions
What can I say?
Settings the way you'd call them: “40 mil”, “T2.8 and a third”, “ISO 800”, “5600 Kelvin”, “focus 9 feet 6”, “height 4 foot 2”, “add ND six”, “pull the Black Pro-Mist”. Scene letters work plain or phonetic — “scene 14 bravo”, “scene 14 B”. Slate calls too: “next take”, “scene 15”, “circle that”, “undo”. Anything that isn't a setting can go in as a note.
Something was heard wrong
Say or tap undo to take the last change back. Setup › Voice log shows exactly what was heard and what it became — send it to us from there and we'll teach the parser.
Siri says it can't do that
Start with the app's name: “Circle Take log”, then say what changed when Siri asks. “Circle Take circle that” and “Next take in Circle Take” work in one go. The Shortcuts app lists every phrase under Circle Take.
Do I have to run timecode?
No. Timecode and take timing are both optional in Setup. Turn them off and you get a plain report: takes, settings, and notes, no times.
How do I jam?
Tap the timecode readout and choose Jam. Type the camera's timecode, or point the phone at a monitor or slate showing it running and let it read. Circle Take then free-runs from that offset.
Where are my reports?
On your phone, one file per production — switch between them from the production browser. They stay there unless you share the PDF or work on the production with your crew (Setup › Collaborate), which syncs it, end-to-end encrypted, to the crew you let in. Export before you delete a production.
What does it run on?
iPhone on iOS 26 or newer. Voice logging uses Apple Intelligence when it's on for the harder phrases. Measuring camera height needs a LiDAR iPhone (Pro models).
Beta feedback
In TestFlight, take a screenshot in the app and tap Share Beta Feedback, or use Setup › Send feedback in Circle Take. Tell us how your set does it — if a field, an abbreviation, or a convention is missing, that's exactly what we want to hear.
